Richard Douzjian

Richard Douzjian is an architectural designer, consultant and researcher. He has been based in Beirut, Lebanon, since 2012 where he founded shiogumo.

Douzjian was awarded the Japanese MEXT Scholarship in 2008 and moved to Japan where he received his Doctor of Engineering from Kyoto University in 2011.

In his doctoral thesis he coined and developed EXTENDED CINEMATICS based on semio-linguistics, architecture & film semiotics, analogical reasoning, and idea generation processes.

He received his M.Arch. with Distinction from Université Saint Esprit de Kaslik in 2006.

Prior to his move to Japan, he focused on intensifying and enriching his experience in the design of built environments by working in multiple firms with distinct focuses, such as AREPville (Paris) and PSLAB (Beirut) among others.

He has taken part in a number of international competitions, winning 2 with AREPville.

Douzjian has taught Architectural Design and EXTENDED CINEMATICS at the Dessau Institute of Architecture (2014), the Lebanese American University (2012-2014) and the Université Saint Esprit de Kaslik (2011-2014).
